Fleet sits about 38 miles north of the workshop, M3 most of the way. We're into GU51 and GU52 through the season for school summer fairs, scout and guide group events, weddings around Crookham Village and Hartley Wintney, and corporate days at the business parks along the M3 corridor.

The nearest big event on the calendar is the RAF Odiham Family Fun Day, a few miles out of Fleet, which we're back at each year with a range of inflatables and games for the station families. Up the road in Farnborough, the college has had us in for its end-of-year achievements event and again for the freshers fair in September, where the dance machine and a photo booth branded with the college's own logos did the business. Reward days at schools in the same corner of Hampshire have run the rodeo bull, assault courses, laser tag and a run of electronic games, so there's plenty of local form to draw on.

Whether the booking is a single inflatable for a back-garden party or a full multi-attraction fun day for a corporate client, the same crew, paperwork and kit turn up, all of them ours.

School fields, scout camps and village greens usually sort themselves out, but a couple of details help us quote accurately. The kit wants a level pitch no more than 50 metres from where the van stops, an access route at least 36 inches wide, and a 13A socket within 20 metres for each inflatable. The hirer sorts the van's parking, and if the site is a long way from a building we can bring a generator. Weddings at a pub or club also need the licensed-premises insurance, which we carry as extra cover, so tell us the venue when you ask.

The trust side is straightforward. We carry £10 million public liability, the inflatables are PIPA tagged and inspected annually by our in-house RPII inspector, the electrics are PAT tested, and the risk assessment and method statement go with the booking. The staff are our own, RPII-examined, first-aid trained and enhanced-DBS checked, and outdoor inflatables come with an anemometer and a 24mph cutoff.
