Rodeo Pig Hire

The rodeo pig, also called a bucking pig or a mechanical pig, is the same ride as our rodeo bull with a different animal on top. Ours is called Porky, a moulded pink pig with a smiley face sat on the red motion base in the middle of a round inflatable surround, with a cartoon cowboy panel behind him. The rider climbs on and tries to stay put while the pig rolls, bucks and spins, and when they come off, which nearly everyone does in the end, they land on the padded green bed rather than the ground.

One of our staff runs it for the whole hire. They set the speed and the spin from the control box, starting slow for younger or nervous riders and winding it up for anyone who asks for a faster ride. If you would rather keep it even, everybody can have exactly the same ride. There is a large LED timer alongside showing how long each rider lasted, so the operator will run it as a stay-on competition through the day if you want one.

For outdoor bookings we can put the ride under our six-legged inflatable spider marquee, which is 21ft across with pull-down sides and covers the pig and a few spectators. That keeps a light shower off and the queue moving, though we still cannot run the ride in heavy rain or in winds over 24mph.

Works well at

The pig suits weddings, family fun days, school fêtes, birthday parties, corporate fun days and village fêtes, usually where somebody wants a rodeo ride that looks daft rather than intimidating. Coral had it at a party and wrote afterwards: "Just a line to let you know we had such a great day with the Rodeo Pig, how much fun is that?! Dave was brilliant, and the pig made the party."

It is one attachment on a GS Engineering multi-ride base, so the same machine takes the rodeo bull, the rodeo sheep, the rodeo rugby ball and the seasonal rodeo reindeer, rodeo pumpkin and rodeo Christmas pudding. Rodeo pig hire across Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and London

We have run Monster Event Hire from our unit in Havant since 2002, and the kit is all ours, so the person who turns up to run the pig is one of our own staff and not a sub-contractor. They have passed the RPII operator and supervisor exams, are first-aid trained, and hold enhanced DBS certificates, which matters for school and council bookings. The ride is ADIPS-certified, the electrics are PAT-tested every year, and the inflatable surround is inspected annually by our in-house RPII inspector under the PIPA scheme, built to BS EN 14960:2019. The risk assessment is available on request. We carry £10 million public liability insurance, with the certificate available on request, and we hold additional licensed-premises cover, so there is no issue running the pig at a pub, club or bar.
