Milking Cows

The milking cow game - also called Milk the Cow, the cow milking contest, or just the milking contest - is a race where players squeeze rubber teats on a set of cartoon cow boards and whoever fills their bucket first wins. We run four cow boards at a time, so up to four players squeeze away side by side, which tends to draw a crowd.

Each cow board is a cartoon-style cutout, pale beige with black outlines and a large yellow bell hanging from its neck, mounted on a black metal stand. The players sit on stools in front of the boards and squeeze the rubber teats, which produce a stream of water into a clear bucket on the ground. First one to fill their bucket wins the round. It takes around 30 to 60 seconds per go, and you can run it as a simple head-to-head race or as a timed competition with a prize for the fastest milker.

What you get

  • Four cartoon cow boards on metal stands, with rubber teats and clear buckets
  • Milking stools for each player
  • Water supply for the teats
  • No electricity needed, it runs on squeezing
  • Works indoors or outdoors

Where it suits

It earns its keep at village fetes, country-themed events, agricultural shows and school fun days, though it goes down fine at most events where you want something physical and a bit different. Corporate team-building days, charity fundraisers, wild west themed parties and family fun days all work. Both children and adults have a go, and the novelty of actually milking something is enough to get a queue forming.

If you are putting a few competitive side stalls together, the High Striker and the tug of war sit well alongside it. For the animal theme, the rodeo pig and the rodeo sheep are popular, and you can see the rest of the stalls and carnival games range on one page.

The kit, the people, and the paperwork

We've run Monster Event Hire from our unit in Havant since 2002, Joanne and David between us, and the kit is all ours rather than sub-hired in, so the person who turns up is one of our own. Everyone on the road is first-aid trained and enhanced-DBS registered, which matters for a school or a youth event. We carry £10 million public liability insurance, with the certificate and a risk assessment yours on request, and we hold additional licensed-premises cover, so there is no problem running it at a pub, club or bar.

Where we cover

We deliver, set up and collect across Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and London, from Havant and Portsmouth over to Guildford and Southampton. Tell us the date and venue when you enquire and we will put a quote together.
