Rodeo Bull Hire

The rodeo bull, also called a mechanical bull, a bucking bronco or a buckaroo, is the wild-west ride where one person climbs on and tries to stay put while the bull spins, bucks and rocks from side to side. Ours has a real cowhide body, a moulded head with a set of horns, and a studded leather saddle, and it sits on a base in the middle of a round, brown inflatable surround. When somebody comes off, and most people do, they land on the padded floor rather than the ground.

One of our staff runs it for the whole hire. They set the speed and the spin from the control box, starting slow so a nervous rider or a younger one gets a fair go, then winding it up as people get cocky. There's a large LED timer alongside so everyone can see who lasted longest, and the operator will run it as a stay-on competition if you want one. It tends to draw a crowd, some of them queuing for a turn and the rest waiting to watch someone get thrown.

Equipment details

  • Staffed throughout the hire: our operator sets the speed and spin, not the rider
  • Riders aged 10 and over, around 1.2m tall, who can climb on and off unaided
  • Round inflatable surround with a padded floor for soft landings
  • Large LED timer for stay-on-longest competitions
  • Runs from a standard domestic mains socket
  • Indoor or outdoor use, on a flat site
  • Indoors it needs about 10ft of height clearance and a 20ft x 20ft operating space
  • Minimum 1m access width to get the kit in
  • Fully ADIPS certified
  • A high quality GS Engineering base unit - the best in class

Works well at

It goes down well at birthday parties and 18ths, staff parties and corporate fun days, weddings, school fun days, college and university events, and festivals and community days. We've run it indoors in a marquee and outdoors on everything from a school courtyard to a manor lawn, and it works the same either way. Paul booked it for an evening do and wrote afterwards that it was "bucking brilliant". Karen had it at a child's birthday alongside the sumo suits and human bowling, and said the two lads we sent "were great with the kids, promoting fun whilst still retaining that air of 'safety conscious'".

If you want the same idea sized for a different crowd, the Rodeo Sheep and Rodeo Pig are gentler siblings that go down well with younger riders and at weddings, and there's a Rodeo Rugby Ball and a Rodeo Reindeer for themed events. The full rodeo rides range is on one page.

Rodeo bull hire across Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and London

We've run Monster Event Hire from our unit in Havant since 2002, and the kit is all ours, so the person who turns up to run the bull is one of our own staff and not a sub-contractor. They've passed the RPII operator and supervisor exams, are first-aid trained, and hold enhanced DBS certificates, which matters for school and council bookings. The electrics are PAT-tested every year. We carry £10 million public liability insurance, with the certificate available on request, and we hold additional licensed-premises cover, so there's no issue running the bull at a pub, club or bar.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for Saturday night. All had a fab time even if some of us are still achey to say the least! The rodeo bull was brilliant and your staff member (Dave) was fantastic, the best staff party yet. I will certainly be recommending you.
