Gold Cup horse racing challenge
The Gold Cup Horse Racing Challenge - sometimes called a hobby horse racing game or a horse racing simulator - is a four-player head-to-head race where each player straddles a hobby horse and rides as hard as they can. The physical motion is linked to a small horse figurine sliding along a lane on the green felt racecourse in front of them: the harder you ride, the faster your horse goes. The built-in commentary calls the race as it develops, announces the winner by colour and name, and resets automatically for the next group. A round takes under a minute.
The racecourse unit is a rectangular box with horse-racing imagery on the front panel and a green felt course on top with four coloured lanes, each with a small horse figurine at the starting position. The hobby horses - one in each of blue, yellow, red and green - are realistic horse-head props mounted on coloured poles, with handles on either side of the head. Players position the pole between their legs, hold the handles, and bounce and ride the horse forward with their arms and body. The game tends to pull a crowd once it's running - the sight of four adults bouncing on hobby horses at full effort is usually enough.
We include a member of staff for the whole hire to run the rounds, keep the game moving and help first-timers get started. It runs off a standard 13amp socket and sets up indoors, outdoors or in a marquee.

Works well at
Corporate fun days and office parties, birthday parties and family events, school fetes, charity fundraisers and community events. It also suits exhibition stands and trade show floors, where short rounds mean a steady flow of visitors can take a turn without a long wait, and the commentary carries across a busy hall. It suits events with a racing or country theme, and is a natural choice around the Grand National or Cheltenham Gold Cup.

I wanted to say a huge thank you to the team of three who accompanied the activities on Monday – they were all absolutely fantastic and did a really great job of overseeing the activities and encouraging people to join in whenever there were spaces – which I’m pleased to say were not very often. The weather was fab and there must have been 300 people coming and going during the three hours that I ran the event for. I hope that the team tucked into the cakes, ice creams and cold drinks that were on offer – I did keep telling them to!
Many thanks for arranging this for me, Joanne, appreciate it very much and I will certainly be using your services again, if you’ll have me.
Kind regards Chris – FIL Investment Management Limited
