Pedal Go Kart Hire

Our pedal go karts - also called pedal karts, go kart hire, or BERG go karts - are three BERG Safari pedal karts with adjustable seats and pneumatic tyres, set up for racing rather than a slow lap round a cone. They are pedal powered, so there are no batteries or motors to worry about, and the adjustable seats mean the same kart fits a seven-year-old and a full-grown adult without any tools needed.

The karts are made by BERG, a Dutch manufacturer whose pedal karts are used in holiday parks and hire centres across Europe. The Safari model has what BERG calls a BFR system, which stands for Brake, Freewheel and Reverse: you pedal forward to go, the pedals stay still when you coast, you back-pedal to brake, and then pedal backwards to go in reverse. The seat slides to six positions along the frame, and the pneumatic tyres and swing axle keep all four wheels on the ground even when the grass is uneven, which matters once the racing gets competitive.

The inflatable track

We can bring the karts with the yellow-and-black checkered inflatable track shown in the photos. It is 20m by 15m, with arched sections the karts drive through, and it gives the hire a much clearer shape at school fun days, family events and team building days because people can see where the race starts, where it turns, and who has taken the corner too wide. The track needs two standard 13-amp sockets for the blower.

The karts also work without the track, on a coned-out course, if the venue is tight on space or the surface is not suitable for the inflatable. We need to know the venue, surface, access route and rough age range before quoting, because the setup changes depending on what we are working with on the day. Grass, sports pitches, playgrounds, tarmac and indoor sports hall floors are all possible.

Works well at

School fun days and sports days, corporate fun days and team-building events, birthday parties, community festivals and village fêtes, university events and charity fundraisers. The karts tend to draw a queue once people see them running, and because each race is short you can get a lot of people through over the course of an afternoon.

The kit, the people and the paperwork

We have run Monster Event Hire from our commercial unit in Havant since 2002, Joanne and David between us, and the karts and track are ours rather than sub-hired. The operator who turns up on the day is one of our own staff, RPII-qualified, first-aid trained and enhanced-DBS registered, which matters plainly for any booking involving children, schools or council events.

The inflatable track is inspected annually by our in-house RPII inspector and PIPA-tagged under the scheme the HSE recognises, and it is built to BS EN 14960:2019. The electrics are PAT-tested every year. For outdoor hire we include an anemometer and a written wind-safety procedure: readings every 30 minutes, mandatory evacuation at 24mph (Force 5 on the Beaufort scale).

We carry £10 million public liability insurance, indoors and out, with the certificate and a risk assessment available on request. We also hold the additional licensed-premises cover that lets us work at pubs, clubs and bars, which a lot of smaller hire firms do not carry.

We deliver, set up and collect across Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and London, from our base near Portsmouth out to Southampton, Guildford, Basingstoke and into south-west London. Questions people ask about the pedal go karts

What surface do the karts need? They work on grass, sports pitches, playgrounds, tarmac and indoor sports hall floors. The inflatable track needs a flat, level surface and enough room around it for safe run-off. If the venue is tight on space or the surface is not right for the inflatable, we can run the karts on a coned-out course instead.

Can adults ride them? Yes. The BERG Safari has a maximum user weight of 100kg, and the seat adjusts to six positions along the frame, so the same kart fits a seven-year-old and a full-grown adult. We see plenty of parents and teachers having a go once the children have had their turn.

Do the karts come with the inflatable track? The track is optional. It is 20m by 15m and needs two standard 13-amp sockets for the blower, plus driveable access for the van to get close enough to unload. If your venue does not have the space or the power, we can bring the karts on their own and set up a coned course.

What age are they suitable for? The BERG Safari is designed for ages 5 and up. The adjustable seat and the pneumatic tyres mean younger riders can reach the pedals and steer without fighting the kart, and the BFR system gives them a proper brake rather than just back-pedalling to slow down.
