Boot Camp Challenge

The Boot Camp Challenge - also called an inflatable obstacle course, an inflatable fun run or an assault course - is a 100ft two-lane inflatable where two people race side by side through a sequence of climbs, tunnels, squeeze-throughs, biff-bash sections and slides. At 100 feet long and 15ft high at its tallest point, it is one of the larger pieces in the assault course range, and the finishing slide at the far end is the highest section of the lot. If you get ahead early and keep your footing through the middle obstacles, you can hold your lead to the finish, but the biff-bash posts and the tight squeeze sections catch a lot of people out.

Children and adults can both use it, which makes it useful at events where the age range is mixed: school fun days and reward days, corporate team-building, community fetes, summer festivals, birthday parties, youth group events, national sports week activities. It tends to draw a crowd when it is running, partly because people want a go themselves and partly because watching someone get stuck in a squeeze or knocked sideways by a biff-bash post is fairly entertaining from the sidelines.

Coldstream Guards Welfare had the assault course at their families day alongside the Sweeper, and wrote afterwards that "the children loved the assault course and sweeper" and that "the staff were very helpful and professional and the prices for a few hours entertainment are very good."

Works well at

It goes down well at corporate fun days and team-building events, school sports days and reward days, summer festivals, community fetes and large birthday parties. We have run it at school fields, village greens, parkland and corporate grounds. The two-lane layout means throughput is decent, because the next pair is ready to go as soon as the previous two finish, and the spectacle keeps the queue engaged.

We have run Monster Event Hire from our commercial unit in Havant since 2002, and the whole fleet is ours, so the crew who deliver and set up the Boot Camp Challenge are our own staff, not sub-contractors. Every inflatable in the fleet is PIPA-tagged and inspected annually by our in-house RPII inspector under BS EN 14960:2019. PIPA is the only inflatable inspection scheme recognised by the HSE. All our staff have passed the RPII operators and supervisors exams, are first-aid trained and hold enhanced DBS certificates, which matters for school and council bookings. We carry £10 million public liability insurance with the certificate available on request, and we hold licensed-premises cover, so there is no issue running the course at a pub, club or bar. For outdoor hires we include an anemometer and a written wind-safety procedure: readings every 30 minutes, mandatory evacuation at 24mph (Force 5).
