Inflatable Base Jump

The inflatable base jump - sometimes called a stunt jump, a cliff jump or a freefall inflatable - is a tall tower with a platform at the top, a large inflated landing bed below, and a slide curving down the side for anyone who wants the easy way back to ground level.

It is built by Airquee, a manufacturer that has been making commercial inflatables for more than twenty-five years. The unit is red and blue heavy-duty PVC, 11.4 metres long, 6.79 metres wide and 5.1 metres high. Users climb the internal steps to the platform, step out through the arched opening and drop onto the red air-cushioned landing bag. The fall is only a few metres, but it feels like more when you are standing at the edge looking down. Most people go back up for a second go once they realise the landing is soft.

The unit needs a flat grass area with plenty of clearance around it and full driveable access for the van, because it is too large to carry through a building or down steps. We bring our own anchorage and blower, though we will need a standard power socket within reach of the setup spot.

We run this one with a member of staff on site at all times. The operator controls the queue, checks ages and gives a quick briefing before each jump. We suggest it for ages 10 and up, though that depends on the individual - we've had cautious adults and confident ten-year-olds use it at the same event without any bother.

We've run Monster Event Hire from our commercial unit in Havant since 2002. The kit is all ours - no sub-contracting - and the person who turns up to run the base jump is one of our own staff, not an agency casual. Every member of our team is RPII-examined for operating and supervising, first-aid trained, and enhanced-DBS registered, which matters for any booking involving children, schools or youth groups. The inflatable is PIPA-tagged and inspected annually by our in-house RPII inspector, and all electrical kit is PAT-tested every year. We carry £10 million public liability insurance, with additional licensed-premises cover for pubs, clubs and bars, and the certificate is yours if you want it. Risk assessments and method statements come as standard.
