86ft Army Assault Course Hire

The 86ft Army Assault Course - sometimes called a military obstacle course, a giant inflatable assault course, or just the army assault course - is one of the largest inflatables we send out, eighty-six feet of camouflage-patterned obstacles running end to end. It starts with a low letterbox opening, then throws you through biff and bash soldiers (the inflatable pillars you have to push and squeeze your way between), a covered tunnel, a set of mangles that narrow the run, another bank of biff and bash soldiers, then up and down the slip-and-slide section before you hit the 10ft mega slide at the finish. Most people run it as a timed race, two at a time side by side or one after the other, with the queue watching from the grass.

The pattern is yellow, green and brown camouflage across the whole course, and the photos show it set up on a country-house lawn, a suburban playing field and an open grass pitch with trees behind, so you can get a sense of the footprint.

What's included in the hire

  • The full 86ft assault course, delivered and set up by our own staff on a flat grass or hard-standing site
  • Three blowers running from three standard 13amp domestic sockets, so you need three plug points within reach of the course
  • An anemometer and written wind-speed protocol for outdoor hires (readings every thirty minutes, evacuation at 24mph / Force 5, which is the same procedure we use on every outdoor inflatable)
  • For self-supervised hires, a competent adult from your side runs the course with the anemometer procedure and the setup notes we leave with you
  • If you would rather have us run it, we supply an RPII-trained operator for the duration, which is worth considering for a big event where you have plenty else to think about

Where it works

The 86ft course earns its place at the larger end of the day: corporate fun days and team-building afternoons, school sports days and end-of-term reward events, Scout and Guide jamborees, council festivals and village fetes, and birthday parties where the guest list has outgrown a standard bouncy castle. It suits mixed age groups because the obstacles are physical enough for competitive adults but straightforward enough that children from around six or seven can get through them, and the slide at the end gives everyone a reason to finish.

We have put it on school playing fields and on the lawns of country houses for wedding weekend entertainment. One customer who hired an assault course wrote afterwards: "Our little ones looooved your assault course and it was a joy to watch them have so much fun. We will be back in touch next year no doubt!" - Victoria Marshall.

If you're putting on a day with multiple attractions, the course pairs well with the 75ft army assault course or the 125ft version if you want a longer run, or with the bungee run and the sweeper if you want a mix of physical and competitive.

The kit, the people, and the paperwork

We have run Monster Event Hire from our commercial unit in Havant, PO9, since 2002, and the assault course is ours, stored in the workshop and maintained by our own staff rather than sub-hired in from someone else. The inflatable is PIPA-tagged and inspected every year by our in-house RPII inspector, the blowers and electrics are PAT-tested annually, and the whole thing complies with BS EN 14960:2019.

The people who deliver and set it up are our own employees, not agency casuals. They have all passed the RPII operator and supervisor examinations, are first-aid trained, and are enhanced-DBS registered, which is worth saying plainly for a booking involving children, schools, Scouts, faith groups or vulnerable adults.

We carry £10 million public liability insurance, covering indoor and outdoor work, and we hold the additional licensed-premises cover that lets us operate at pubs, clubs and bars. The certificate, risk assessment and method statement are yours on request with every booking. We are VAT registered.

Where we cover

We deliver, set up and collect across Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and London, from Havant and Portsmouth up to Guildford, Basingstoke and into south-west London. Because the course runs to 86ft, we do need clear lorry access to the site and a reasonably level pitch. If you are not sure the space will take it, send us a photo or the postcode and we will check before we quote.

The course splits into sections for transport, so it gets through most standard gateways once it is off the lorry. Let us know the date and venue when you enquire and we will come back with availability and a price for the lot.

Frequently asked questions

Can we run the course ourselves, or do you staff it?

You can do either. The 86ft Army Assault Course is available as a self-supervised dry hire, which means you provide a competent adult to oversee it with the anemometer and the notes we leave with you. If you would rather we run it, we supply one of our own RPII-trained operators for the full hire. For a big public event or a corporate day where you want a timed competition running, the staffed option tends to make more sense.

How much space does it need, and how do you get it onto the site?

The course itself is 86 feet long by 12 feet wide by 15 feet high, and you need additional clearance around the sides and at each end so people can queue and spectate safely. We bring it on a lorry and need vehicle access to within a reasonable distance of the pitch. The course splits into sections for the journey, so it goes through most standard gateways once unloaded, but if your access is unusually tight or your site is on a steep slope, tell us when you enquire and we will talk it through.

What are the actual obstacles on the course?

From the start, you go through a low letterbox entrance, push and squeeze between two sets of inflatable biff and bash soldiers, crawl through a covered tunnel, work through a narrowing mangle section, run the slip-and-slide stretch, and finish on a 10-foot mega slide. The whole thing is padded and enclosed, and the slide at the end is steep enough to give a proper finish without being so steep that it puts off younger riders.
