Lights Out Challenge

The Lights Out Challenge - sometimes called a strike a light game, a speed reaction table or a light chaser - is a tabletop two-player reaction game manufactured by B.E. Engineering. The playing surface is a large rectangular black table, divided into two equal halves with one player at each end. Rows of large red dome LED buttons cover each half. They light up one at a time at random, for a split second, and you hit each one before it goes out. Miss it and the next one lights somewhere else. A central display panel between the two sides counts down the round and keeps a running score for both players throughout. Whoever has more points when time runs out wins.

Games run for 30 or 60 seconds, and there are three speed settings. You can keep it manageable for younger players at the slower end, or put it on the fastest setting for adults who reckon they're quick. It runs as a head-to-head or as a solo game if someone wants a go on their own. Rounds are short, so you can get a lot of players through over the course of an afternoon or evening, and the people watching from the side tend to get involved because the lights are visible from outside the game.

We deliver, set up and run the Lights Out Challenge from our commercial unit in Havant. We've run Monster Event Hire since 2002, all the kit is ours - no sub-contracting - and all electrical equipment is PAT-tested annually. The staff who come with it are RPII-trained, first-aid certified and enhanced-DBS registered, which matters when the booking is a school, a youth group or any event involving children. We carry £10 million public liability insurance, with the certificate available on request, and we hold licensed-premises cover, so there's no issue if your venue is a pub, club or licensed bar.
