Student Event Hire Portsmouth
Student event hire in Portsmouth is close to home, with the University of Portsmouth, City of Portsmouth College and Highbury College all within about eight miles of the Havant workshop. Welcome days, freshers weeks and student accommodation socials fill September, and the ball season runs from Christmas through to the summer balls of June. Because the vans are in and out of PO1 to PO6 most weeks, the lead time on a Portsmouth student booking is usually short.
The colleges kick the student year off in September with induction and welcome days, where new students rotate through in groups and the kit that earns its place is the kit that turns a group round in a few minutes. The university side adds freshers fairs, SU socials through term and the graduation events of the summer. December and February bring the balls, and May to July is the summer ball window.
Welcome days we have run
City of Portsmouth College had us across two days of welcome days in July 2026, with the last man standing sweeper, the dance machine, the under pressure light chaser and a photo booth in the hall. Highbury College had the magic mirror and the three in one sports inflatable out the same week. Those are the shapes a welcome day takes, and because the same crew comes back for day two, the second morning starts with the kit already familiar to the staff.
For the evening events, the rodeo bull and the surf simulator are the pieces the SU and the accommodation teams book, and the bull needs around 20ft by 20ft plus ceiling height when it goes indoors. Photo booths come staffed and print on the night, which suits a graduation reception or a ball where nobody wants to be running equipment. The electronic games are indoor, plug-in kit on ordinary 13amp sockets, so a common room with a couple of spare sockets is a venue.
Booking a Portsmouth student event
College and university bookings tend to go through an events office, an SU or a procurement route, and multi-day welcome week bookings are routine for us. We own every item in the fleet outright, so the kit we quote is the kit that turns up, the inflatables carry PIPA tags renewed by annual inspection from our in-house RPII inspector, and the first-aid trained crew are the same faces on both days of a two-day booking. The risk assessment and method statement go out with the paperwork for the procurement file.
Portsmouth venues are ones our crews know without a recce, from university sites to the Mountbatten Centre and the Southsea Common pitches, so the access quirks rarely surprise us on the day. Outdoor inflatables go out with an anemometer and the 24mph wind cutoff, and marquees need flat grass for the anchor pins. Parking for the van is the hirer's to sort, though it's rarely a problem on a campus.
The Portsmouth event hire hub lists everything local, and the rodeo bull hire in Portsmouth, photo booth hire in Portsmouth and garden games hire in Portsmouth pages each cover their own corner of the range. The student and freshers event hire and college and university event hire pages carry the national picture. For the welcome day staples, the dance machine and the last man standing sweeper product pages hold the detail.
For a quote, email the institution, the event type, the date, the building or pitch, the timings, the expected numbers and whether students arrive in waves across the day. Any procurement deadline is worth flagging early, and we'll get the insurance certificate and the statements into the file ahead of it.
David & Mark were absolutely fantastic - we hired a rodeo bull for our student accommodation event and the residents absolutely loved it.
