The castles themselves divide into two groups. For a back garden party the 12ft x 14ft themed units - Jungle, Princess, Superheroes, Toy Story and the rest - fit a smaller lawn and the threes-to-tens age range. When the crowd is a fete or a fun day, the 20ft x 20ft Celebration and Fairground castles take more bouncers at once, and they're the two we'd point a family-day organiser at first. Whichever way you go, the pitch wants 20ft by 20ft of level ground give or take, with extra room for the anchor points and the blower. Getting the kit there is our job, not yours. We load up at the Havant workshop, run up the A3 to the A331, and the crew that pegs the castle out is ours - the same people have been doing it since we set up in 2002, they're enhanced-DBS registered, and the annual PIPA inspection by our in-house RPII inspector is kept in date on every unit. The £10 million public liability certificate and the risk assessment go to the venue ahead of the day whenever the organisers ask. Hardly any castle goes out on its own. The inflatable assault course keeps the older children busy, a rodeo bull pulls a queue at the bigger fun days, and the photo booth takes over once the evening do starts.
