Gladiator Duel & Jousting Hire Surrey

The gladiator duel, which most Surrey enquiries call gladiator jousting, is the padded two-player contest with head guards and pugil sticks, and it is one of the games a Surrey crowd gathers round fastest. It works at teen and adult birthdays, school sports days, corporate fun days and scout camps, because a round lasts seconds and the queue keeps moving. Everything is stored, repaired and dispatched from our own Havant workshop, and the crew who set it up stay to run it.

There are four duels in the range going out to Surrey, from the straight gladiator jousting arena to the four-player medieval human demolition, so the choice comes down to space, ages and how physical you want the contest. They pair naturally with an assault course or a bouncy castle when the event needs something for the smaller guests, and the full Surrey event hire range is on the county page.

The range splits by shape. Gladiator jousting is the original on an 18ft x 20ft arena: two players on raised plinths, padded poles, head guards, first one off the plinth loses. The Rock 'n' Roller puts both players on a single podium that rocks and turns, so balance does half the work and the falls come quicker. Pole jousting is the lighter option, two riders astride a padded pole on a 13ft x 13ft bed swinging pillows until somebody drops, and it fits the smaller gardens and village halls. Medieval human demolition is the four-player version, everyone on their own pedestal under a castle arch swinging a padded wrecking ball at the other three, and it wants a 28ft by 28ft pitch with room for the crowd that gathers.

The jousting arena and the Rock 'n' Roller always travel with one of our own operators, who hands out the head guards, keeps the order of play and stops anyone getting carried away. The medieval demolition can either be run by us or handed over to your marshals once it is anchored and tested. Whichever way a Surrey booking goes, the staff are the same people who delivered it, with RPII operator training, first-aid certificates and enhanced DBS checks, and no part of the job goes to an agency.

Padded-duel kit is inflatable, so the usual paperwork follows it out to Surrey: PIPA tags kept current through the annual inspection round run by our in-house RPII inspector, PAT-tested blowers, and the anemometer and wind procedure when the duel sits outdoors. We carry £10 million public liability cover including the licensed-premises extension, so a duel at a Surrey pub, club or bar is cleared the same as one on a school field.

Surrey bookings usually sit the duel next to something for spectators and smaller siblings: a bouncy castle and slide for the little ones, one of the inflatable slides to churn through numbers, or the rodeo as a second headline. Send the venue, the surface, the ages and the rough numbers, and we will say which duel fits before the date is held.

I'd like to send my own thanks to the 2 lovely guys who came with the inflatables. They were great with the kids, promoting fun whilst still retaining that air of 'safety conscious'.

Gladiator duel hire in Surrey - common questions

Does the gladiator duel come with someone to run it?

The gladiator jousting arena and the Rock 'n' Roller are staffed for the whole hire, with our operator controlling who is on, handing out the head guards and keeping the rounds moving. The medieval human demolition can go either way, run by us or handed to your marshals once the safety checks are done. Say which you would prefer when you enquire.

How much space does a gladiator joust need?

The jousting arena is an 18ft by 20ft footprint, the pole joust 13ft by 13ft, and the medieval demolition 28ft by 28ft plus standing room for the crowd it draws. All of them want level ground and a socket within reach, or we bring a generator for the field sites. A Surrey garden takes the pole joust easily, the joust needs a fair-sized lawn, and the demolition suits a school field or a showground.

What ages is gladiator jousting suitable for?

The pugil-stick duels are pitched at teens and adults, with head guards on both players and every fall landing on the inflatable bed. For younger children, the pole joust with pillows is the gentler contest, and schools often run it alongside a bouncy castle so there is something for every age. Tell us the age range at quote stage and we will match the duel to it.

Can you run a duel at a licensed Surrey venue?

Yes. We carry £10 million public liability cover with the additional licensed-premises extension, so the gladiator duel and the rest of the range are cleared for pubs, clubs and bars as well as schools, halls and private grounds. The certificate, risk assessment and method statement can go out with the Surrey quote.

Is gladiator jousting safe in the wind?

Outdoors, the anemometer and the documented wind procedure travel with it like every inflatable we run, with readings every thirty minutes and a clear-and-switch-off at 24mph. If the Surrey forecast looks poor, tell us early and we can talk through a sports-hall swap for the smaller units.
