The inflatable snow globe - Airquee's Christmas Snow Globe Bouncer is the trade name, and plenty of people just ask for a snow globe bouncy castle - is a clear-domed bouncer with a snowman, a Christmas tree and a striped North Pole fixed inside. Children squeeze in through the doorway and bounce around the scenery, and because the dome walls are clear, everyone outside can watch them doing it. That is the point of it: it works as a bouncer and as a photo attraction in the one unit.

Ours is built by Airquee and runs as a constant-air unit off a blower on a standard 13A socket. The Airquee design gives it a footprint of around 5.6m by 4.8m, with the dome standing about 3.4m at its highest, which is a touch over 11ft, so it is really an outdoor piece, or one for a venue with genuinely tall ceilings rather than the average village hall. The manufacturer rates it for six children up to 1.5m at a time, or four if they are taller, and an adult fits through the same doorway to help a nervous one or take the photo.

December is where it earns its keep: grotto add-ons, school end-of-term treats, shopping-centre and garden-centre Christmas openings, holiday parks, and the family corner of a council Christmas event or winter festival. It pairs naturally with Santa's grotto, the Christmas photo booth and Rodney the rodeo reindeer when a venue wants a full winter wonderland, and the fuller Christmas party packages all travel on one delivery.

We have run Monster Event Hire from our unit in Havant since 2002, the globe is ours rather than sub-hired, and our own crews deliver and set it up. Like every inflatable in the fleet it is PIPA-tagged and inspected annually, the blower is PAT-tested, and we carry £10 million public liability insurance with the risk assessment available for the venue's file. Outdoor bookings come with our anemometer and the documented wind procedure, so the weather plan is written down rather than improvised.
