The Fairground Slide - sometimes listed as a funfair slide or fairground inflatable slide - is our single-lane mega slide done up in traditional funfair colours. It stands 18ft high, and the idea behind it is a simple one: a classic slide with a theme that takes sliding back to its roots.

You climb the stepped ramp up the left-hand side and come down the wide red lane on the right. The frame is built up in padded blue and red sections with a rounded orange bumper round the base and a green canopy over the top, and there's funfair artwork across the back panel with cartoon characters riding little fairground cars. We put crash mats down at the bottom of the lane.

It runs for children and adults. The footprint is 21ft long by 18ft wide and it stands 18ft high, so it wants either an outdoor pitch or a large indoor venue with the ceiling clearance to take it. We set it up on a clear, level grass area we can stake into, with driveable access for delivery and collection. If the only space you've got is a hard surface, tell us when you enquire and we'll let you know whether it can be anchored safely.

It tends to go out to birthday parties, school fun days and fetes, village fairs, family fun days, community festivals, weddings and corporate days. It works on its own or alongside the rest of a funfair setup.

What you get

The slide is ours outright, PIPA-tagged and inspected every year by our in-house RPII inspector, which is the only inflatable inspection scheme the HSE recognises. Because it's 18ft high, wind matters: for outdoor hires we bring an anemometer and follow the standard procedure, with wind-speed readings every thirty minutes and a mandatory shutdown and evacuation at 24mph (Force 5). Every member of our team has passed the RPII operator and supervisor exams, is first-aid trained, and holds an enhanced DBS check.

The £10 million public liability certificate and the equipment risk assessment are there on request, and we also hold additional licensed-premises cover for jobs at a pub, club or bar. We've run Monster Event Hire from our unit in Havant since 2002, covering Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and into London.
